Cold-brewed Japanese green teas for spring!
Cold-brewed Japanese green teas for spring!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, followed by a plethora of spring holidays, all vibrant ways to cross-market your teas and tea accessories with other vendors at the farmers’ market, other retailers in your neighborhood or mall.

How can you take advantage of these opportunities?

You sell tea and accessories, while other vendors sell cards and flowers and sweets, all are delightful and complementary gifts for the Valentines on everyone’s list - from partners to children to special people in your customers’ lives. Greeting cards are the perfect match for teas and teacups, with a pretty box of chocolates or cookies to say “I love you”. Remind your customers that both guys and gals can offer their sweethearts with a tea-delicious gift. Ka-ching!

Spring into Sales

It’s not too early to plan for all of spring’s occasions beginning with the vernal equinox, aka Spring Solstice, March 20th or St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th when everyone claims to be Irish. Whether you offer bourbon-flavored tea or suggest tea as an antidote for too much whiskey, you’ll be bringing in the green.

Speaking of green, sweet senchas, delicate dragonwells, and everything from genmaicha to matcha evoke spring’s eternal gift to us: the freshest selections for the most delicious taste sensations of all.

Many Ways to Generate Sales

Depending on the variety of communities in your area, you can highlight the many ways spring is celebrated around the world, and give everyone a reason to celebrate with tea and tea accessories. Some of the many holidays include the colorful Hindu celebration of spring, Holi, on March 8; the carnival atmosphere of Purim, March 6-7, the excitement of Persian New Year, Nowuz, March 21-22, and the two better known spring observances, Passover on April 5th through the 13th and Easter, April 9th.

A Recipe for More Tea Sales

Teas are delicious hot or iced, straight up or sweetened, and the ideal non-alcoholic mocktail especially when served in elegant champagne or wine glasses (another cross-over marketing idea with local liquor or housewares stores!)

Experiment with your inventory of greens and offer customers a free print-out of cold-brewed green teas; a surprise for everyone at the luncheon or dinner table and so easy to prepare:

COLD-BREWED GREEN TEA

- 1 tablespoon of Sencha or Matcha

- 12 ounces of fresh spring water

- Steep 15 minutes

Strain into a red wine glass

Not only is this visually appealing, it offers guests the opportunity to inhale the tea’s fragrance for additional pleasure.
